Sheaffer NoNonsense
About This Model
These are often called economy or student pens, but the NoNonsense pens are their own breed. Clearly reminiscent of the pre-Balance flat-topped Lifetimes, these are tall, crown and tassie-less plastic pens, made of thick plastic and inexpensive trim in most models. They are cartridge fillers, and are known for being indestructible. They first appeared in 1969, and never seem to disappear from production. As for other school pens, from the 1970s forward, as soon as cartridges became fully reliable and inexpensive, Sheaffer produced millions of low cost school pens, with plastic bodies, often clear and tinted, and chrome caps. These were the ultimate workhorse pens, still completely useable today.
About This Pen
This NoNonsense is a very pretty example of this mass-produced pen — cherry red plastic, chrome trim, fine nib. The pen is completely clean, looks unused, comes with an empty cartridge and is ready for use. Curiously, its nib, although marked “F Italic”, is neither. It is an ink-guzzling hugely broad stub, clearly one of the Sheaffer calligraphy nibs. Enjoy it!
