Parker Parkette
1934
About This Model
By the beginning of the Depression, with the failure of many fountain pen manufacturers, even Parker felt the need to produce a lower cost line. That decision also resulted in their first lever-filled pens, after a decade of button-filled Duofolds. The first model was the Parco, what evolved into the Parkette, Parker’s first successful budget model. In successive forms, Parkettes appeared until WWII.
About This Pen
This Parkette is a Deluxe pen and pencil set from 1934, in Burgundy Pearl scalloped barrel style. Both pen and pencil are in very nice used condition: no deep scratches, but both show signs of use and wear. Both cleaned up very nicely and make an attractive set. Trim is gold-plated and shiny; completely present in the pen but the pencil clip’s ball end is missing some plate. The pen is not imprinted, but the pencil is, including the “44” date code for 4th Quarter 1934. The nib is marked “Parker 14K”; it writes a nice medium with a bit of flex, but is the nib for a standard Parkette, not the Parkette Deluxe. The pencil works fine, takes 1.5mm leads. A nice set from the Depression years.
