Parker 65
1967
About This Model
The 65 was an English Parker, developed in the mid-1960s as a successor to the 61, which was largely unsuccessful, even with the innovative capillary filler. These were not easy years for Parker, as they struggled to maintain success. The 65 was meant to evoke the 51 but with a part 61-like/part 51 Aerometric filler. /they appeared in number of gold-filled decorative finishes, and sported semi-hooded nibs with some flex. 65s were produced well into the 1970s, with a raft of style and filler changes.
About This Pen
This 65 is from 1967, and is very attractive, gold-filled with the Custom Insignia chased pattern. In fact, the insignia box is used in this pen, as it was inscribed to “LJ Sebestic”, for what one guesses was this person’s ten-year work anniversary, since the inscription notes “1.9.1957-1.9.1967”. The pen has some micro-wear from use, and two deep scratches close together on the cap, but it polished up nicely. Its nib is wonderful — this pen writes a soft, wet BB, a delight to write with. The nib is marked “Parker 14K 585””.
