Montblanc Meisterstück 149
About This Model
Montblanc is another of the fountain pen manufacturers, like Sheaffer, Parker, and Omas, with a history that is too long and complex to write in brief form. it was founded in 1908 as the Simplo Filler Pen Co, to create excellent pens, luxe items. The first model was the original Rouge et Noir. The Montblanc branding still in use today dates to 1913. Their signature pen, the Meisterstuck in the 149 size appears in 1924. By the end of the 1920s Montblanc was also producing top quality leather goods. During WWII, Montblanc operated from Denmark, and used that as a springboard for their modern operations worldwide. Montblanc was acquired by Alfred Dunhill Ltd in 1977, and is currently part of the Richemont luxury goods group, owned by the Rupert family in South Africa.
About This Pen
West Germany, 1969-70. My second fountain pen, this 149 was a 1970 high school graduation present from my parents. It is marked “Germany”, without the “West” because it was made for domestic use. It has seen almost continuous use since, although limited to desk use since a street fall in 1995 chipped the cap. This pen has never been serviced, except for a full flushing after each fill. Black resin with gold trim. Piston filler.
