Montegrappa Symphony Emblema Rollerball

1996-99

Emblema was the final version of the Symphony line, and is consistent with but also has some different design elements from the Symphony. Like the Symphony pens, Emblema is 13.8cm long, a substantial pen. This Emblema is in streaked red celluloid, and has an inset insignia ring below the cap, instead of the Symphony’s broad cap ring. The design is elegant and striking. The Symphony’s threaded barrel end is present, but the cap crown is more prominent, and in silver. The trim is 925 sterling and is so marked. This pen does not yet have a fresh refill, although one is being purchased from the factory in Italy.

Price: $235 $205

Montegrappa Symphony Brier Fountain Pen

1995-1999

The Symphony Brier fountain pen is actually made from a type of briar, from the Erica tree root, a species of heather found in the Mediterranean climate. The root, according to Montegrappa, is harvested when it is 30-60 years old and then dried for months, yielding a beautiful and very hard wood. It is filled with a modern piston/converter. The nib is probably rhodium plated. It writes a full wet medium, with some softness. This pen has had a stabilizing repair to the inner cap, but is otherwise in excellent condition. The trim is all silver, and without marks or blemish. An understated, truly elegant pen.

Note: A third Symphony rollerball, a Brier that matches the Brier Fountain Pen, was sent to the Montegrappa factory for repairs. Except for the brier material, it is identical to the two Rollerballs listed here. It will be available as soon as it returns. If you are interested in purchasing both of the Briers as a set, an increased discount will be available.

Montegrappa Symphony Ballpoint

1996-99

This Symphony ballpoint pen has the same facets and dimensions of the Symphony line, in a tapered body. The ballpoint works with a twist mechanism. In bright streaked yellow celluloid. It is in excellent condition, and comes with a fresh refill.

Price: $125 $98

Montegrappa Symphony Fountain Pen

1996-99

The Symphony celluloid fountain pen marked a return to celluloid for Montegrappa in its fine pens. This is a very substantial pen, 13.8cm long and 1.3cm across below the cap ring. It is streaked dark turquoise, with some iridescence in the celluloid. The pen fills with a modern piston/converter. It is in excellent condition. The nib is a very soft medium that was just refurbished by nibmeister Joshua Lax. This fountain pen is stunning, perhaps not fully justified in the photographs. It comes in its original box.

Montegrappa Symphony Micra Ballpoints

1996-99

The Micra ballpoint pens were an offshoot of the main Symphony celluloid line, shorter, full girth pens made for a pocketbook. The compact pens, of which two are available, are both in dark blue celluloid with marbled silver. 10.3cm long with almost 11mm girth, it feels full-sized in the hand. The trim on these is 925 sterling, which is marked. They are in excellent condition, with fresh refills, and come in their original boxes. Each is $95. Buy both for $75 each!

Montegrappa Symphony Rollerballs

1996-99

These are two Symphony rollerballs, in celluloid, differing only by their color: one is streaked black and silver, the other is in streaked red. Like the fountain pens, these are full-sized pens, at 13.8cm long and 1.1cm across. Both pens are in excellent condition and come with fresh refills. They are both striking in appearance, unlike any rollerball one might see in normal use. Buy both for $195 each!

The black rollerball has sold.

Symphony Micra Hearts Rollerball

1996-99

The Micra pens were an offshoot of the main Symphony celluloid line, shorter, full girth pens made for a pocketbook. This elegant rollerball is in bright red resin, 11.1cm long but full girth. The trim is 925 sterling, which is marked with little hearts in the cap ring and the tassie. For some reason, this pen is missing its little roller in the clip, which is accommodated in the price. It has a fresh refill, and comes in its original box with papers and special cleaning rag.
