About This Pen

The Sheaffer Legacy was produced at least twice by Sheaffer, in the 1990s and early in the 2000s. They were styled like the later PFM pens, thick, well-balanced, and with the inlaid diamond-shaped nibs that surely defined the legacy they embodied. After the Fort Madison, Iowa factory was finally shut down in 2008, hundreds of Sheaffer pens and parts were sold to collectors and craftsmen. Many of these were later seen as fantasy pens, made by numerous pen makers.

This pen is such a fantasy Sheaffer Legacy. Admittedly, it is not a vintage pen, but was made by the late Jim Rouse sometime between 2010 and 2015; he purchased many of the remaining Legacy parts and crafted his own acrylic barrels, selling them at pen shows while he performed his duties as nibmeister for Franklin-Christoph. Although these pens usually were fitted with Touchdown mechanisms, and later cartridges, this example has an aerometric filler. The pen is a beauty, in multicolored acrylic, with a brass cap. The cap is a slip-fit, and clicks nicely into place. That said, this pen’s top feature is its 18k Sheaffer inlaid nib, which is an outstanding writer, writing a wet and incredibly smooth line, a fast writer. Enjoy it, give it as a gift, but please treat it to a case to protect its finish?
